Asalnya, tradisi melompat batu itu adalah tempat latihan sebagai persediaan generasi muda menghadapi peperangan. Dulunya, jika sesiapa berjaya melompat melepasi batu itu, mereka dianggap matang dan layak untuk berjuang di medan perang.


Sebab itu peluncur cukup gemarkan Teluk Dalam dan bagi peluncur baru, mereka mempunyai banyak pilihan. Bak kata penduduk tempatan, jika gagal di ombak lapisan pertama, peluncur masih mempunyai peluang menghadap empat lagi lapisan ombak. 

Lebih meriah ketika berlangsungnya pertandingan luncur antarabangsa yang diadakan ketika musim ombak besar sepanjang Jun hingga Julai setiap tahun. Penulis yang berpeluang ke Teluk Dalam mendapati kawasan itu memang dilengkapi semua kemudahan pertandingan meluncur. 

Ketika tsunami melanda Aceh pada Disember 2004, kawasan Teluk Dalam turut dilanda musibah menyebabkan kemudahan dan rumah musnah. Kawasan itu dibangunkan semula tetapi diancam gempa bumi pada Mac 2005 menyebabkan penduduk takut tsunami menyusul lagi, namun tragedi itu tidak berulang.

Kini selepas empat tahun dilanda bencana alam yang menggemparkan, kawasan itu kembali aktif. Tidak hairanlah, ia sering menjadi tumpuan peluncur terutama dari Australia, Jepun dan Eropah yang menempuh perjalanan ribuan kilometer semata-mata untuk berhadapan ombak besar dan pulang dengan hati yang puas.

Usher in the New Year at Dataran Merdeka with the Ambang 2011 Kuala Lumpur concert, an event featuring performances by local artists and more!

Apart from the performances by popular artists, the highlight of the evening will be a dazzling show of fireworks at midnight to welcome 2011.

The concert will feature an exciting and varied lineup of artists in what promises to be a highly energetic and dynamic evening, with star performers such as Mizz Nina, rock legend Amy Search, Malaysian Idol 2 winner Daniel Lee, Dato’ David Arumugam, Ramlah Ram, Pop Shuvit and also the first-prize winner of Bintang RTM 2009, Ernie.

There will also be cultural dance performances, including the 1Malaysia Dance, Malay cultural dances from the DBKL Dancers, Chinese dances from the CN Dancez and Indian dances from Vehaara Arts. Also on stage will be the Bhangra group Gold Kartz, sing and dance group The Singing Shop as well as Orang Asli dance troup Mah Meri. Orkestra DBKL will also be a part of the exciting concert experience.

Ambang 2011 Kuala Lumpur will also be broadcast live on TV2 from 10.15pm to 1.15am on Dec 31.
